Therapy Team

Jess Grant, LCSW, Clinical Supervisor

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Colorado as well as a certified Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapist and Perinatal Mental Health Counselor (PMH-C). I am a trauma therapist and specialize in complex, interpersonal trauma. I specifically work with clients struggling with disordered eating and perinatal issues (fertility, loss, and mood disorders).

I care deeply about the human experience and know that change and healing is possible. I can hold this hope and confidence until you are ready to hold it yourself.

I was born and raised in Illinois and have a special place in my heart for Lake Michigan, deep dish pizza, the Cubs, and the Illini (I-L-L…). Although I love the Midwest, I moved to Colorado for the outdoor adventures and amazing community that Fort Collins has to offer. I love hiking, skiing, camping, and mountain biking. I find peace in nature and think my life has become healthier and happier since moving out West. Moving away from where I grew up gave me an opportunity to intentionally grow into the woman I want to be and develop a community and culture that aligns with my values. Relationships and deep chats fill my cup like nothing else. There is nothing better than a conversation where hearts are connecting. This is why I went into therapy.

I became a mom in 2019 and then again in 2021 to two beautiful daughters and am committed to making this world a kinder place for them to live in.

At Hope Roots, I offer clinical supervision for practicum and internship students. To connect further with me, please email jess@hoperoots.org.

Alex Bodie (she/they), BA, MSW, Trauma Therapy Intern

I grew up in Warren, Ohio an hour southeast of Cleveland. One of my favorite things about my hometown are the green spaces that exist within the city limits - whenever i go home i visit the Laird Communal Garden where i created a labyrinth held dearly by surrounding garden beds filled with herbs and perennials. Besides various places in Ohio, i have also lived way up north on the coast of California and now most recently on The Front Range in Colorado. In 2013, i graduated from the University of Toledo with a degree in Communication. Over the years, i have worked in multiple nonprofit roles spanning housing, education, harm reduction, and mental health care. In 2021, after years of working with individuals, families, and communities, i began a Master of Social Work (MSW) program with a specialization in trauma-informed care at the University of Northern Iowa. As a part of my graduate program, my cohort and i studied over a year-long period with our professor Dr. Matthew Vasquez to learn his body-centered therapeutic approach to trauma treatment called Integrated Somatic Regulation®, which incorporates the latest science regarding trauma and its effects on the brain and body, and utilizes elements from various body-centered practices, including body-based psychotherapy, EMDR, sensorimotor psychotherapy, and yoga. Integrated Somatic Regulation® can be used to safely treat those who have experienced long-term, complex and developmental trauma. In 2024, i became certified in Post-Traumatic Growth Somatic Therapy with clinician Ruby Jo Walker, LCSW of Southwest Trauma Training. I participate in ongoing group consultations with Ruby Jo and look forward to completing the Advanced Post-traumatic Growth training in the future. My approach in working with clients includes curiosity, the nervous system, expressive arts, nature-based activities, movement, unconditional positive regard, and the idea that healing doesn’t have to be so hard. I am fortunate to receive clinical supervision from Jess Grant, LCSW and mentorship from Hope Roots founder Sarah Joseph, LPC.

To inquire about scheduling with me, please email alex@hoperoots.org or call/text (970) 200-8575 to request a free 20-minute phone consultation. I work with individuals ages 15 and up of any gender identity. I see clients in person at the Hope Roots office in Fort Collins, CO, or via telehealth for clients located anywhere in Colorado—Medicaid (RMHP only) or Private Pay (with sliding scale).

Sarah Joseph, LPC, NCC, Director & Trauma Therapist

I have experience in helping clients develop a mind-body connection - learning how stress, trauma, and emotions are felt and held in the body.  My approach allows the client freedom to explore how their nervous system has adapted to handle trauma and stress throughout their lifetime. This awareness leads to healing and helps facilitate trauma reprocessing.  I use EMDR therapy to help clients process the residual imprints of trauma that often cause anxiety, depression, anger issues, and chronic health problems.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Masters in Counseling. I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the state of Colorado. I am trained in EMDR therapy and trauma-sensitive yoga, and I am pursuing training in Neurofeedback Therapy and Psychedelic-Assisted Psychotherapy. My main clinical interests are in trauma therapy, attachment-focused therapy, parts work, yoga & mindfulness interventions, Neurofeedback & neuro-counseling, psychodrama, grief, anger, and stress-related illness.

At a retreat in India in 2005, a lecture on ahimsa (non-violence) sparked an interest in yoga philosophy and mental health. I later became trained in trauma-sensitive yoga, which ignited my lifelong interest in psychology and counseling into a desire to become a professional trauma therapist. I have lived in rural ranching communities in Wyoming, downtown San Francisco, and North India. This diverse experience means that I am comfortable relating with people from many different cultures and backgrounds. I believe that spirituality can help clients make meaning of their pain and find resources for life-long healing and growth. I can provide therapy in English and/or in Hindi.

I am based in Northern Colorado but I spent over 10 years of my adult life living and working in India. I am the founder and board chair of Hope Roots. Since relocating to Colorado in 2019, I also work as the project coordinator for the Northern Colorado Human Trafficking Symposium.
