Alex Bodie, BA, Master of Social Work (MSW) Therapist Intern

I grew up in Warren, Ohio an hour southeast of Cleveland. One of my favorite things about my hometown are the green spaces that exist within the city limits - whenever i go home i visit the Laird Communal Garden where i created a labyrinth held dearly by surrounding garden beds filled with herbs and perennials. Besides various places in Ohio, i have also lived way up north on the coast of California and now most recently on The Front Range in Colorado. In 2013, i graduated from the University of Toledo with a degree in Communication. Over the years, i have worked in various nonprofit roles spanning housing, education, harm reduction, and mental health care. In 2021, after years of working with individuals, families, and communities, i began a Master of Social Work (MSW) program with a specialization in trauma-informed care at the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). This May 2025, upon completion of 500 hours of my final clinical internship, i will graduate with my MSW.

Some other things about me and my practice that you may be interested in…

  • I have hearing aids due to permanent hearing loss that is genetic. The hearing aids are incredibly helpful and have brought a lot of relief to my waking life.

  • I am a very casual person, i have visible piercings and tattoos, i don’t care if you cuss (i do too) and i love to laugh with you.

  • My pronouns are she/her/they/them/dude. I am neurodivergent and enjoy working with clients who identify as neurodivergent - ADHD, Autistic, a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), complex PTSD - you can read more about neurodivergence here on Trauma Geek’s blog.

  • I still have my first ever yoga mat from 2008, it’s green and green is also my favorite color.

  • I am artist and love to express myself through painting, poetry, and photography.

  • My therapy practice includes decolonization of the therapy/mental health field. Learn about decolonization here. Transparency is incredibly important to me and i will explain everything to you and then some - we are doing this therapy thing together!

  • Most of the clients i work with have Colorado Medicaid health insurance - there are requirements from Medicaid that i must comply with: Complete an initial intake/paperwork with you, Assign you a diagnosis (per the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders aka the DSM), Create a treatment plan and update it at least every six months (you and i will review and edit your treatment plan together and officially submit it when you have signed off on it), and Complete progress notes for each individual or group therapy session we have and submit them to Medicaid. You can ask me any questions about these requirements at any time. Typically, i hand write notes in session and you are welcome to ask to read what i am writing (or doodling) at any point and i will show you.
